Temperature Records Shattered

South Korea has registered its highest temperature since records began over a century ago. The south-eastern city of Yangsan saw temperatures reach 42.5C, the highest reported since modern weather observation began in 1904.

Authorities Issue Alerts

Authorities have issued alerts warning people to "immediately" stop all outdoor activities in affected areas. Indoor spaces without air conditioning are also considered "dangerous".

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, temperatures have passed 40C for the fifth straight day.

Heatwave Precautions

To stay safe during the heatwave, people are advised to:

• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
• Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
• Stay in air-conditioned spaces as much as possible
