Humiliation

I have watched people
carry the same hunger as mine
and somehow make it look holy.
Some people are proof
the road is real.
Others are proof
of how far I still have to go.
And I sit here
with half-built worlds in my hands.
Maybe my problem
is that I want too many things
with the seriousness
of someone who means every one of them.
I carry them all inside me
like unopened letters,
each one addressed
to a life I have not lived yet.
