Zentropa revives the Dogma Manifesto with Dogma25
Zentropa, the Copenhagen‑based production house founded by Lars von Trier, has launched a new collection of films under the banner Dogma25. The initiative updates the 1995 Dogma Manifesto for a new generation of filmmakers. The project was first unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where the company announced a series of ten short films that will explore contemporary social issues while adhering to a set of strict creative rules.
What is Dogma25?
Dogma25 is a modern reinterpretation of the original Dogme 95 principles. While the earlier movement demanded natural lighting, handheld cameras and the exclusion of non‑diegetic music, the new version expands the scope to include a broader range of narrative experiments. Each film must be completed within a 25‑minute runtime and follow a list of 12 guidelines that emphasize authenticity, minimal post‑production, and a focus on character over spectacle. The official description of the program can be found on Zentropa’s website.
