France and Spain Face Fresh Heatwave

France and Spain are bracing for the fourth heatwave of the summer, just as they were making progress battling destructive wildfires. Temperatures are once again expected to cross into the high 30s and low 40s Celsius.

Sophie Brocas, the prefect of Gironde and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, said that the fire remained contained, with several flare-ups quickly brought under control.

Wildfire Risks

Authorities fear that the progress in containing the fires in the Gironde and Madrid regions may be set back by the rising temperatures. The risk of new wildfires is high, and residents are advised to take precautions.
