Cicada 3301 is an anonymous online hunt that began in 2012 to recruit highly intelligent individuals through solving highly complex puzzles. The puzzles involved cryptography, steganography, and data security.
The first challenge appeared on 4chan on January 5, 2012, featuring an image with a hidden message.
Many developers and hackers are tried to figure out the puzzle but few can.
Those who successfully completed the challenge were invited to a private forum page on Dark Web.
The group behind Cicada 3301 was posted their last post in April 2017.
